AUDITION TOP TIPS
FOR PARENTS & GUARDIANS
At Dancebox, we wholeheartedly understand how exhilarating and nerve-wracking audition season can be—particularly when your child is applying to several colleges. We genuinely care about each of our auditionees' experience at Dancebox and want you to feel fully supported.
Below are our top tips to help ensure your child’s audition journey is as positive and stress-free as possible.
-
Stay Positive and Encouraging
It’s perfectly normal for your child to feel nervous. Remind them that the audition panel is looking for potential, not perfection. We firmly believe that anxiety is a normal emotion and can be a powerful tool when focused correctly. -
Focus on Preparation, Not Perfection
Emphasise thorough practice, plenty of rest, and a calm mindset. -
Create a Supportive Environment
Assist with scheduling and transport, but also ensure downtime for your child to decompress. -
Be Organised
Keep all audition details—dates, times, locations, and documents—in one folder or calendar. Minimising last-minute panic lets your child focus on showcasing their talent. -
Mind Their Wellbeing
Encourage good nutrition, consistent sleep, and gentle stretching. Feeling physically and mentally strong helps them bring their best self into the audition room. -
Set Realistic Expectations
Encourage your child to dream big, but also discuss a range of possible outcomes. While it’s important to aim high, auditions can be unpredictable, and no single result defines their future. Not getting into a particular college doesn’t mean your child can’t succeed elsewhere. Each institution looks for specific qualities, and one closed door can lead to a better-suited opportunity. -
Plan Your Journey
If possible, stay nearby the night before to avoid train delays or traffic. Double-check the audition bag for all essentials. Removing these stressors helps your child walk in confident and composed. -
Celebrate Small Wins
Every completed audition is an achievement. Celebrate along the way and do something that marks the occasion. Maybe go for dinner after each audition day to debrief?
